Article overview
Get answers to common questions about migrating your legacy projects to WellSaid Studio — what's preserved, how read-only sections work, and what to do if something goes wrong.
WellSaid is moving to a single Studio experience, and legacy projects need to be converted before July 30, 2026. Use the sections below to find answers about what migration means for your projects, what carries over, and how to complete the process.
Understanding legacy projects
What is a legacy project?
A legacy project is any project created in the original WellSaid Studio experience. You can identify one by the model label on the project card — if it shows Standard, Caruso, Caruso (Legacy), or a language name like Spanish or Chinese, it's a legacy project. Projects without those labels are already in WellSaid Studio and don't need to be migrated.
What is the "Standard" project type? Is that the same as a legacy project?
Yes. If your project card is labeled Standard, it's a legacy project and needs to be migrated.
How do I find all my legacy projects?
Go to your Personal or Team drive on the Projects page and scan project cards for the labels above. Sorting by Oldest to Newest is a good starting point — most legacy projects will appear at the top.
Why is WellSaid retiring legacy projects?
WellSaid is consolidating onto a single Studio experience so all investment — new voices, features, and improvements — goes in one place. Legacy project types and older voice models are being retired as part of this transition.
Timeline
What are the key dates?
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| June 1, 2026 | Migration opens. A banner appears on all legacy projects. |
| June 30, 2026 | Creating new legacy projects is no longer available. |
| July 30, 2026 | Unmigrated legacy projects become view-only. |
| End of 2026 | WellSaid automatically migrates any remaining legacy projects. |
Do I have to migrate before July 30?
Migration is strongly recommended before July 30. If you don't migrate by then, your projects become view-only — you can still play back and download existing audio, but you won't be able to edit or render new takes until you convert.
What's preserved
What carries over after migration?
Migration is designed to preserve your project content, including:
- Scripts and clip order
- Project structure and section mapping
- Workspace permissions and project ownership
- Generated audio — all existing clips are available for playback and download
- Replacements — carried over, though formatting may vary
Will I lose access to my voices?
No. All voices — including Standard and Caruso — remain available in WellSaid Studio after migration.
What doesn't carry over?
The original legacy project is not kept as a copy. Migration is one-way and can't be undone. If you want a record of the original, download your audio before converting.
Read-only sections
What does "read-only" mean?
Some sections in your migrated project may carry over as read-only. These sections are clearly labeled with a READ ONLY badge. You can play back and download the audio, but you can't edit the script or render new takes without first changing the voice.
What causes a section to be read-only?
A section becomes read-only if it was generated with an older model, an unsupported avatar, or if it was a combined clip. You'll see a tooltip on the section explaining which applies.
Can I make a read-only section editable again?
Yes. Select a new voice on that section, and it becomes fully editable. Note that re-rendering will generate new audio — your original render remains available until you replace it.
What happens to combined clips after migration?
Combined clips carry over as read-only sections. You can play back and download the audio, but you can't re-render them. To recreate the content, select a new voice on the section to enable editing.
What happens if my project used an unsupported avatar?
The avatar image may still appear on the section, but the section will be read-only. Select a new voice to enable editing and generate new audio.
Migration process
How do I migrate a project?
- Open a legacy project. You'll see a banner at the top prompting you to convert.
- Click Get started in the banner.
- Review the confirmation screen — it shows what's preserved and confirms the action is permanent.
- Click Convert now.
- The project converts and you're taken into it in WellSaid Studio automatically.
Can I migrate multiple projects at once?
No. Migration happens one project at a time. You can convert projects at your own pace any time before July 30.
Can I undo a migration?
No. Migration is permanent and can't be undone. The original legacy project is not kept as a copy.
Can I keep working in a legacy project before migrating?
Yes. You can keep editing and rendering in legacy projects normally up until July 30. Any audio rendered before migrating will carry over.
Who can trigger migration on a team?
Any team member with full project access can migrate a project. Project owners and workspace admins can migrate any project in the workspace.
Does migration change project permissions?
No. Migration preserves existing permissions, including workspace access, project sharing, and user roles.
After July 30
What exactly happens when a project becomes view-only?
On July 30, any legacy project that hasn't been migrated becomes view-only. You can still play back and download existing audio, but you can't edit scripts, change voices, or render new takes until you convert.
Can I still migrate after July 30?
Yes. Migration is still available from the view-only state — just click Get started in the banner to convert at any time. WellSaid automatically migrates any remaining projects at the end of 2026.
Troubleshooting
The migration didn't complete — what do I do?
Refresh the page and try again. If the issue persists, contact WellSaid support.
I can't find my legacy projects.
Check your project cards for the labels Standard, Caruso (Legacy), or a language name. Try sorting by Oldest to Newest. If you're on a team, check both your Personal and Team drives.
My project shows no banner — does it need to be migrated?
If there's no legacy label on the card and no migration banner, the project is already in WellSaid Studio. No action needed.
Will migration affect my billing or downloads?
No. Migration doesn't change how billing or downloads work and doesn't trigger any additional charges.
