Crafting questions that sound natural can be challenging in English due to the many tonal variations we use to convey meaning. While questions don't always require a rising inflection at the end of a sentence, upward inflection mid-sentence is very common to express an inquiring tone.
Our AI is constantly learning to create natural-sounding voiceovers, but there are a few tips you can use to help ensure the right inflection:
Get the Right Inflection
- Try recording multiple takes. Because our voices make a unique prediction each time you render, you’ll notice subtle differences in their performances, even if you don’t make any changes.
- Add a comma before the final word or leave off punctuation at the end of the sentence to help guide the AI's inflection.
Example: How are you doing, today? or How are you doing today
- Use a combination of punctuation marks like commas, ellipses, and quotation marks to emphasize certain words or phrases.
Example: How are you doing, "today"? or How are "you" doing, "today"?
- Place quotes around words in the middle of the sentence to emphasize them.
Example: How are "you" doing today?

In WellSaid Studio and Caruso (Legacy), try using Cues to adjust the pace, pitch, and volume of words or sentences in your script.
Example: A combination of increased pitch and volume on the last word of your sentence can produce a rising intonation to indicate a question.
