Article overview
Go from a blank script to finished, professional audio in a few steps.
Studio takes you from script to finished audio, whether you're producing training content, marketing audio, or anything else. This guide walks through creating a project, choosing a voice, adding your script, generating takes, and downloading your final file.
Before you get started
- You'll need a WellSaid account. If you don't have one, sign up for Free.
Creating a project
- Log in to your Studio account.
- Click on + New project in the left nav.
- Enter a project name and optional description.
- Click on Create project.
Choosing a voice and model
The Voices library opens automatically when you enter a new project.
- Browse voices in the Explore tab, or use the filters in the right sidebar.
- Click the play icon on a voice card to preview it.
- Use the Style dropdown under a voice's name to choose a style and model.
- Click on Use voice to apply it. A new section appears with that voice attached.
Click the heart icon on a voice card to save it under the Favorites tab for quick access later.
If you dismiss the Voices library before choosing a voice:
- Click on + New section to add a section.
- Click the avatar icon on that section to reopen the Voices library.
To switch a voice's style or model later, use its Style dropdown. To change the voice, click the avatar icon in the section to reopen the Voices library.
Please note: You can also browse voices on the Voices page in Studio without opening a project. Not sure where to start? See Using Audition to Find a Voice.
Adding your script
Add your script in one of two ways:
- Type or paste directly into a section's text field.
- Click on Import Script to upload a file or add a script from a URL.
If you import a script, choose how to split it into sections — Split by paragraphs, Split by sentences, or Don't split — then click on Go.
Generating and comparing takes
Sections support multiple takes, so you can compare options before committing to one.
- Click the play icon to generate your first take.
- Review the take and adjust your script if needed.
- Click the play icon again to generate a take from your updated script, or click the Retake icon (circling arrows) to generate a new take from the same text.
Managing your takes
- View take history: click Take [#] at the top of the section to open the Take history list.
- Restore a take: hover over a take in the list and click Use Take to make it active.
- Delete a take: open the … menu next to a take in the list, then select Delete.
Using Multiple Voices (Dialogue and Podcasts)
Each section in your project uses one voice. To create a conversation, like a podcast with two hosts, give each speaker's lines their own sections and assign the right voice to each one. If one speaker has several lines in a row, those can stay together in one section (up to 5,000 characters).
Add a second voice
- Click on + New section to add a section.
- Click the avatar icon on that section to open the Voices library.
- Click the play icon on a voice card to preview it, then click on Use voice.
- Type or paste that speaker's line. Repeat for each line, switching voices as the speaker changes.
Import a script with more than one speaker
Studio doesn't automatically detect speaker names in an imported script, but you can use them as a guide:
- In your file, put each speaker's turn in its own paragraph and start it with the speaker's name (for example, "Host 1: Welcome to the show.").
- Click on Import Script, upload your file (.txt, .pdf, or .docx), choose Split by paragraphs, then click on Go. Each turn becomes its own section.
- Go through each section. Use the name to see who's speaking, and click the avatar icon to choose that speaker's voice.
- Delete the speaker's name from the section text so it isn't read aloud.
Create one audio file
- Click the play icon on each section to generate its audio. To generate every section at once, see Generating Audio for All Sections.
- Check the boxes next to the sections you want to combine.
- Click on Download in the toolbar, and under Download audio as, select Combined file.
- Choose a pause length, enter a file name, and click on Download.
Sections combine from top to bottom, so put them in order first. For more detail, see Combining Sections.
Downloading your audio
- Click the download icon on a section.
- Choose a file format: .mp3, .wav, or .ogg.
- Enter a file name, and optionally check off caption files (.srt, .vtt, .txt) to include.
- Click on Download.

- Control pronunciation: use replacements to swap in different spoken text (like reading "1099-MISC" as "ten ninety-nine miscellaneous"), or respellings to control exactly how a word sounds using our phonetic syllable system.
- Make text TTS-friendly: use Rewrite for Speech to format numbers, dates, email addresses, and URLs so they sound natural.
- Shape delivery: use Voice Cues to adjust loudness, pace, pitch, and pauses, or start from an Emotional Preset.
- Add emphasis and control pacing: use emphasis and punctuation to shape a script's delivery.
- Translate your script: Enterprise accounts can translate a script into non-English languages and generate audio directly in Studio.
